Lewis Law NYC PLLC (“Lewis Law,” “we” or “us”) respects the privacy of visitors to lewislawnyc.com (the “Website”). This policy describes what information we collect through the Website, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Website you agree to the practices described here.
This policy covers information collected through the Website. It does not cover information we receive in the course of representing a client. As lawyers, we owe clients duties of confidentiality under the New York Rules of Professional Conduct and other applicable professional rules, and many client communications are protected by the attorney-client privilege. Those duties are stricter than this policy and are addressed in each client’s engagement letter. If this policy and our professional obligations ever conflict, our professional obligations control.
01Information We Collect
Information you provide. If you contact us through the Website’s inquiry form, by email, or by phone, we collect the information you choose to give us, such as your name, email address, telephone number, company, title, and the nature of your inquiry. Please do not send confidential or sensitive information through the Website until you have spoken with us and we have agreed in writing to represent you.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Website, our hosting provider and analytics service automatically collect certain technical information, such as your IP address and the approximate location it indicates, browser and device type, operating system, the pages you view and the time you spend on them, and the website that referred you. We use Google Analytics for this purpose. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out of Google Analytics through Google’s browser add-on. This information does not identify you by name.
Cookies. The Website uses cookies, which are small files placed on your device, to make the Website function and to understand how it is used. You can set your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when a cookie is being sent; some features of the Website may not work properly if you do.
02How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to respond to your inquiry; to check for conflicts of interest and evaluate whether we can represent you; to provide legal services if you become a client; to operate, secure, and improve the Website; and to comply with legal and professional obligations.
03How We Share Information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
We share information with service providers that help us operate the Website and our practice, such as our website hosting provider, analytics provider, and email service, and only for those purposes. We may also disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or court order; to protect our rights or the rights and safety of others; and, in the event of a sale or transfer of the practice, to a successor, subject to the same professional obligations that apply to us.
04Retention
We keep inquiry information for as long as needed to respond to you and to maintain our conflict-of-interest records, which we are required to keep. Technical information collected by our analytics service is retained for the limited periods set by that service.
05Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, consistent with applicable law and the requirements of our profession. No method of transmission over the internet or of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a security incident affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
06Your Choices
You may contact us at any time to ask what information we hold about you from your use of the Website, or to ask that we correct or delete it. We will honor such requests except where we are required to keep the information by law or by our professional obligations. Because there is no common industry standard for “Do Not Track” browser signals, we do not respond to them separately.
07Children
The Website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
08Third-Party Websites
The Website may contain links to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and this policy does not apply to them.
09Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
